Richard's Diary..........Surrey Clays

I was delighted to visit a new Clay Shooting Ground called Surrey Clays on Saturday 23rd February which is situated on the outskirts of Guildford where I met with the Ground Owner Simon Grimmer to talk about becoming a CPSA Affiliated Club.

The Club offers a 50 bird Sporting shoot and operates every other Saturday with the next shoot on Saturday 9th March and then Saturday 23rd March and so on. Free tea and coffee is available during the shoot which was most welcome considering it was freezing and at one stage the snow was almost going sideways!!

There was a good turnout of hardy souls considering the weather conditions and I'm sure Simon's cheerful manner will see his membership grow as word spreads.

I took the opportunity to shoot the 50 bird layout which offered a good mix of targets with loopers, sim pairs, going away targets, overhead and driven and managed a decent 39 ex 50 so can't complain considering I couldn't feel my fingers!

I'm delighted to confirm that Surrey Clays have now joined the CPSA as an Affiliated Club Member and a Trade Member to enjoy all the benefits available to them so do take a look at their website www.surreyclays.co.uk for further information on their shoot dates, pricing etc or call Simon on 07782 377665.

Kent & Sussex League Trophy Presentation Shoot

The Kent & Sussex Clubman Classic League trophy presentation shoot took place on Saturday 2nd February at Greenfields Shooting Ground (www.greenfieldsshooting.co.uk) in Kent on a beautiful sunny winter's day with not a drop of rain or snow forecast it promised to be a good days shooting!

Thanks to Scott & the team at Greenfields for hosting us again and putting on an excellent 70 bird Sporting layout and a 10 bird Extreme Teal competition. Also thanks to the guys from Clay Shooting R US Ltd (www.clayshootingrus.co.uk) who came along with their very addictive Clay Snooker layout, along with a High Gun prize of 250 Cartridges, which many of us had a go at and enjoyed thoroughly.

A shoot-off was required following a tie at the conclusion of the League to determine the Overall Runner Up & Third Place position between Barry Dann from Normanhurst's team & Jim Baker from Greenfields team so we held it on the Clay Snooker layout which neither shooter had attempted before and this gave everyone else the opportunity to see how it worked!

After an exciting shoot-off Barry edged it with 38 points to Jim's 33 - the difference of just one blue clays score between them! So it was confirmed that Barry is the 2012 Runner Up and Jim the 2012 Third Place and congratulations to them both for their efforts throughout.

Following the Sporting shoot we all retired to the Clubhouse for the trophy presentations for the winners on the day and the overall League winners and I'm very happy to confirm the following results:

Clay Snooker High Gun - Ali Williams

Extreme Teal High Gun - Jim Baker

70 Bird English Sporting High Gun  - Matt Peddle

Presentation Shoot Runner Up - Russell Perrins

Presentation Shoot High Gun - Jim Baker

Kent & Sussex Clubman League Third Place - Jim Baker

Kent & Sussex Clubman League Runner Up - Barry Dann

Kent & Sussex Clubman League High Gun - Richard Leonard

Kent & Sussex Clubman League Master Class Winner & New CPSA Member - Luke D'Ambrosio

Kent & Sussex Clubman League Runner Up Team - Greenfields

Kent & Sussex Clubman League Winning Team - Normanhurst

Finally I'd just like to thank all the teams for taking part during 2012 and the grounds who hosted the fixtures for making Pete & I welcome. We are planning the next League calendar now and expect to kick off after Easter so keep up with the practice as we expect it to be another hard fought competition to be crowned 2013 winners.

Thanks

Richard Worthington

Kent & Sussex Clubman League final fixture.........

The final fixture for the Kent & Sussex Clubman Classic League took place on Sunday 9th December at Sussex Shooting Ground (SSG), Shoreham By Sea in West Sussex.

After 5 fixtures at various grounds in Kent & Sussex the final event was a close run thing between the two highest scoring teams, Normanhurst CPSC & Greenfields Shooting Ground so there was everything to shoot for to claim the overall honours.

The 70 targets were set over 7 fairly challenging stands with a great mix of presentations.

Chris looking very serious......

Don't worry, he picked up his empties !!

Your reporter in action.....

And here's one I shot earlier!!

After a great day in which Normanhurst CPSC took the Winning Team and Richard Leonard the High Gun, we were delighted to confirm that the Overall Winning Team was Normanhurst CPSC with Greenfields SG very close Runners Up. Overall High Gun was Richard Leonard from Normanhurst with Jim Baker from Greenfields SG & Barry Dann from Normanhurst CPSC tied for the Runner Up position. As a result a shoot-off will take place at Greenfields SG on the 2nd February to decide Runner Up and Third Place when we meet for the trophy presentation event.

Lastly, I'd like to thank Linzy & Darren for putting on the shoot for us. We look forward to seeing you again in the New Year and for an SSG Team taking part in the 2013 Clubman League.
